Dr. Amit Bahl, MPH, is an Emergency Care Center who is the Director of Ultrasonography at Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, Michigan.  Dr Bahl is well published in the area of vascular access and his research has guided the Infusion Standards  of Practice. Join us while he explores his newest research as he dives deep with in the vein. You will be shocked and amazed at what he has found inside the veins with vascular access devices. He will be sharing treatment strategies to reduce the complications associated with ultrasound guided peripheral IVs.

Keeping the Catheter Alive: Ultrasound-Guided Peripheral IV Survival"

Objectives:

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the extent of the PIV failure problem
  • Review variables related to US PIV survival
  • Define strategies to improve US PIV survival

Nancy Moureau, RN, PhD is a Clinician Scientist, Vascular Access Specialist, internationally recognized speaker, and expert in the field of PICCs and vascular access practice. Currently working as an educator, researcher, and consultant by implementing evidence-based practices as strategies for nursing and medical excellence with vascular access devices. The co-developer of the model Vessel Health and Preservation her goals are to facilitate the translation of research and models such as VHP into patient-focused healthcare practices.
She began her nursing practice in 1981, has been certified as an Intravenous Specialist since 1987 and is currently a vascular access specialist on staff of the PICC/IV team at Greenville Memorial Hospital in Greenville, SC. As the owner and CEO of PICC Excellence, Inc., Dr.  Dr. Moureau chaired the International Consensus Forum for WoCoVA on Minimal Requirements for Central Venous Access Devices. An adjunct associate professor at Griffith University in Brisbane, Australia, she is active in research and is a member of the Alliance for Vascular Access Teaching and Research (AVATAR). Successful PIVC Practices: Integrating the

4Vs and 5Rs

Objectives

  • Identify practices that contribute to success with PIVCs
  • Discuss methods to determine the 4V’s of Vein selection, Valve location, Velocity (speed) of the blood flow and how the Volume of the blood flow applies to Flowrighteous-ness with the Hemo-Dilution Ratio [Roethlisberger] for the Volume of blood flow compared to the Volume of the infusion in mL’s per minute
  • Comparing how the evidence of the 4v’s coupled with the prescribed Volume Rate of the Infusion can optimize Peripheral IV Catheter dwell time and the goal of 1-Catheter per Patient Visit
  • Outline the PIV5Rights Bundle and evidence supporting the bundle practices
  • Summarize the practices that increase PIVC success and optimal outcomes

S. Matthew Gibson, RN, CRNI, VA-BC, CPUI, is a vascular access specialist who's personal and professional mission statement is to advance the practice of vascular access and eliminate complications.  Former President of the Michigan Vascular Access Network, he serves to educate clinicians of all levels of care. From short peripheral catheters to central vascular access devices, Matt supports vascular access education and research with multiple company's.  He has been a national speaker for over a decade sharing new techniques and evidence for the novice and expert. Join us as Matt shares the Pitfalls of Catheter Securement: The Dressing.

Pitfalls of Catheter Securement: Part 2 The Dressing

Objectives:

Identify different types of modalities for catheter securement

Compare pull force of catheter securement modalities
Identify the common causes of securement failures
Review the best practice recommendations for vascular access device and dressing securement

Identify the benefits of  gum mastic as dressing enhancement

Michelle "Chellie"  DeVries is one of the world's leading Infection Preventionist for peripheral intravenous devices. Join us while Chellie shares her story and data in the efforts to not only help her patients but the patients across the national and the world.

Peripheral IVs: Infection Risks, Evidence and Patient Satisfaction

    Objectives:

    • Review the current literature surrounding complications of short peripheral catheters, including infection.
    • Consider the latest evidence-based guidelines regarding short peripheral catheters.
    • Review the main considerations when adopting a policy of extending dwell time with short peripheral catheters

Dr. LeDonne is a career surgeon who has specialized in vascular access and lead the fight for better CVC outcomes through the understanding of the relationship between insertion and the care of central vascular access devices. You will be informed and entertained on how to improve your outcomes including dressing disruption, dislodgement, migration and most important bloodstream infections

Modern Vascular Access: The relationship between Insertion and Maintenance

    Objectives

    • Learn how placing the central line properly can decrease your risk of complications
    • Learn about the relationship of the insertion translates to the care and maintenance
    • Learn the 16 recommendations to optimizing central catheter insertions
